Today we’re announcing the biggest change to files.fm look in our 10-year history. Well, the second biggest, if we want to be honest — in 2008 we looked even more different. But still, even if our design transforms, our core values and functionality remain unchanged.
The decision to revamp our design did not come easy — we’ve had our previous design for years and both we and our users are accustomed to the way it looks. However, since we are expanding globally and we will soon launch a whole new project, it seemed like high time to create a cleaner and more modern look. Times change and so must we.
We’ve spent a long time now discussing and debating the best possible look and feel for our website, but after some heated discussions it was decided to go for a clean, minimalistic look, with an unobtrusive background and accents in the classic red color from our logo. We removed the clutter that was present in our previous version and increased the visibility of what is important. However, not everything has changed — our core values remain the same and to indicate that we are keeping our main color scheme — grey, blue and red — since it has been a part of our identity for so long.
Our main concern with this redesign was increasing usability while still maintaining enough of the old style that our long-time users would still be able to find everything they need at a glance. We currently offer many different services (Store, Share, Publish, Receive, Backup, Sell and Events) so a new layout and look was needed to distinguish these and make them all easier to find. In addition to that, we also have a new product that we are preparing to launch soon, so the new design will fit in with the new direction we are taking our platform. This new product will require our website to be more convenient and easier-to-use than ever, so we decided to implement the design changes now to give our existing users time to get used to them before more features are added.
We know it’s not easy when things suddenly change, but we are confident that after a brief adjustment period our users will agree that the new design is more convenient. However, if you have any problems, can’t find something you need or just have some feedback about our new look — feel free to contact us on any of our social media:
