If monkeys could write, they would use social networks and file-sharing platforms. Information sharing is hard-wired in the brains of every primate. Research shows: ever since the first ancestors of humans walked the Earth, our brains have been developing to process socially gained information. Without this skill, we would have died out a long time ago.
We, humans, are lucky enough to have learned to write, to discover electricity and to create a computer. We have developed two main types of file sharing platforms: private and public. Private platforms allow to keep your documents securely and share your files with specific people (think Google Drive) while public platforms allow sharing them with everyone interested (such as BitTorrent).
Files.fm wants to combine both by creating a large, publicly accessible library, backed by thousands of members of society. It is a solution for storing large files for free if they can be used by other people (more information in our recent explainer video). What’s more, you will be able to earn additional space in your own Files.fm account for private use by supporting our library: providing content, tagging and organizing files, or providing storage space to others.
The community-based library works best when it is exactly that: a community.
To acquire the funding necessary for this immense project, special FFL tokens are provided for sale. They are the currency of Files.fm platform.
What do I get from the tokens?
After the Library is opened, they can be used for buying copyrighted content, additional storage space or pro features on Files.fm storage platform. You can also use them immediately after buying: every token bought will provide real and immediate storage space on Files.fm storage platform. For each 100 FFL bought (it’s only a dollar!), a user will get 1 GB of storage space.
Where will the money go?
The Files.fm Library is an enormous project. We are a team of professionals in the file sharing industry and we have an existing product providing storage space to more than million users each month. However, our target is much more ambitious: we want to create a community-based library where everyone can upload their files, share with others and safe-keep information for future generations.
For this, we need time and funding. More than 60% of the proceeds from token sale will go directly for development and infrastructure of the library; the rest of the money will be spent on marketing, daily operations, and legal advice.
What’s next?
The token pre-sale will be started on December 1. FFL tokens start from 0.01 $. The next step is to support our vision by buying FFL tokens. You can use them right after buying or save for future — depends on your needs.
After the library is opened, we will need the help of our community to provide content, sort and tag the information available, report mistakes and so on. You will be rewarded with tokens for these important actions. Beta version of the library will be opened already in 2019.
Why us?
From the users’ perspective, it is a good deal because each FFL token bought is backed by real private storage space. You can support the library by buying a product most computer users need at some point in their lives. There are more and more files on our computers, and it would be a shame to lose them due to changing hardware or lack of storage space.
We have a very ambitious idea: to safeguard files for future generations and to fulfill the urge to share information with others — the desire is 35 million years old, after all. But we cannot do it alone.
Follow us for next updates, and let’s create a community-based library together.
