Using our tokens — current possibilities and future plans

Posted on July 12, 2019October 30, 2019

So, you might be a proud new owner of our Files.fm tokens — but what can you do with them? This article will explain what they are, how to use them right now and what you’ll be able to do with them in the future.

In one sentence — Files.fm token is a digital utility token that gives you rights to use Files.fm infrastructure — private cloud storage, for as long as you hold them in your wallet.

At the moment, if you hold these tokens in your account, you will automatically receive private cloud storage space — for each 10FFM you will have 1GB of storage space. You can see how much storage space you have by logging in and visiting https://files.fm/filebrowser. Then you can use files.fm like you would use any other cloud storage service to store and share your files.

In the coming months we will integrate our token as a payment method for our other services — https://files.fm/storage-plans. And, in addition to that, you will be able to buy the paid files on our platform using FFM tokens.

Once we have ensured more usability for our tokens, we will list it in exchanges to ensure that the users can buy and sell their tokens independently.

Once the Library will be launched, users will be able to earn FFM tokens by uploading files, adding metadata, sharing free drive space or doing other things that are beneficial to the Files.fm Library. Users will be able to spend their tokens on subscribing to pro features, buying private storage space or exchanging them for paid content, such as movies, TV shows, music or books.

FFM tokens are well-suited for enabling micro payments in the system. In many cases, the payments and rewards in our system will be small in size — a large share of payments will happen under 1$. If we didn’t have FFM tokens, the micropayments would be swallowed up by transaction costs.

Another reason why we are implementing tokens is that the use of our own tokens is cheaper for the user. When credit cards are used, 3% of the transaction + 0.30 $ for each transaction are paid to the bank. With tokens, the commission is much lower.
