Frequently asked questions about Files.fm backup

What do I have to do to start working with Files.fm Backup program?

Firstly, you have to create Files.fm Pro or Business account which can be done here and information about subscription plans can be found here. Secondly, you have to download setup and install it on you computer. If you have already subscribed to Files.fm, you can you use Files.fm Backup for free and it is not necessary to create another account.

Can I set up multiple Files.fm Backup accounts on a single computer?

No, it is not possible.

Is it possible to restore files from backup on different computer?

Yes. You can do it by choosing an option Restore backup in graphical user interface. However, to restore files successfully, you will need backup password and a folder’s name on Files.fm account where backup files have been uploaded.

Is the password I entered while creating a new backup in General tab the same as for my Files.fm account?

No, this password is not related with your Files.fm account. Although, you will need it later to restore files from backup, so be cautious not to lose it as it will not be able to be restored.

Can I download program for Linux operating system?

No, Files.fm Backup is not available for Linux.

Is it possible to restore Files.fm Backup program’s password to access graphical user interface?

No, the password cannot be restored.

What does Upload volume size mean, while creating a new backup?

This parameter provides how large blocks backup files will be stored in. The volume size is 50MB by default to suit various internet connections. You can change this volume but you must be very cautious because choosing volume size too small or too large, can affect backup and restore processes.

Is it possible to receive emails from program about various program’s activities?

Yes, you can receive detailed emails to your mailbox from program. Additional information can be found here.

How to create backup names correctly?

Creating names in program, you must avoid following symbols: + – & | ! ( ) { } [ ] ^ ‘ ” ~ * ? : \ and space. While creating names it is advised to use single word names. If it is not possible, you can use, for example _ or -, to create backup names by using multiple names.

How much space will my backup take on my account?

Mainly it depends on file types because storage file takes on server, can variate between 20 and 80 percent. Audio, video and photos will not be compressed if they are already in format which uses compression.

After reinstalling program to a different version, it outputs a message: Resource not found: http://127.0.0.1:8200/. How to handle this situation?

You need to restart you computer.

What operating systems Files.fm Backup can be run on?

It can be run on Windows Server, XP, 7, 8, 10 and MacOS X.
